This center is a 9-1-1 emergency dispatch system which serves 5 police agencies and 4 fire agencies. On average, the Department receives approximately 8,000 calls for service throughout the year.

In addition to the regular law enforcement activities, the Police Department offers the following programs:

  • House Watch
Residents going out of town for an extended period can register with the Police Department for the House Watch program. Under the program, a police officer will check on your house at least once per night and monitor for suspicious activity.

  • Neighborhood Watch
This program is designed to educate residents in the principles of crime prevention and awareness and to coordinate the citizen’s efforts to monitor and report any suspicious activity in the neighborhood.

  • Overnight Street Parking
Parking on Village streets is prohibited between 2:00 AM & 6:00 AM from November 1 - April 1. Neighborhood Traffic Violation Reporting

Residents can report minor traffic violations to the Police Department by completing a Neighborhood Traffic Violation Reporting Form regarding specific vehicles. Please note the following general guidelines.

  • The Neighborhood Traffic Violation Reporting Form can be submitted for general traffic concerns, or for specific and/or repeat violations when information on an offending vehicle is available.

  • In cases in which information on an offending vehicle is available, the Police Department may submit a courtesy letter to the registered owner of the vehicle, notifying them of the violation(s) and asking for their compliance with the traffic laws.

  • It is not necessary for the reporting person to provide their contact information.

  • The reporting form should not be used to request emergency assistance or report crimes in progress. In these cases dial 9-1-1.

  • You can also contact the Traffic Supervisor listed at the top of this page.

The purpose of the winter parking ban is to aid in snow removal. If a vehicle must be parked on the street temporarily during the ban, contact QuadCom at 847-428-8784 or enter your vehicle information online. Please be aware, however, that in the event of two or more inches of snowfall, the vehicle may have to be moved at your expense and/or ticketed.

Text to 911 Now Available

As of March 1, 2016, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon customers within the QuadCom 911 service area may be able to use their mobile device to send a text message to 911 for emergency help. (QuadCom serves Barrington Hills, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, South Barrington and West Dundee.)

Texting during an emergency could be helpful if you are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, or if a voice call to 911 might otherwise be dangerous or impossible. But if you are able to make a voice call to 911, and if it is safe to do so, you should always make a voice call to 911 to request emergency response from Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services.

With either a text or voice call, the first information you should provide is your location, in as clear and premise terms as possible. Do not use abbreviations or slang when communicating with 911.

Telephone Scams

Please be aware of an increase in telephone scams requesting money. Recent reports have been related to claims of money owed to the IRS or claims that a loved one is in danger, arrested or injured.

Any request regarding use of green dot pre-paid credit cards to transfer money should be suspected as a potential scam. Remember to always confirm the claims through a third party before taking any action. Click the PDF below for more information on the "Grandparent Scam" and how to protect yourself.

Please contact the West Dundee Police Department should you suspect you have been a target of such a scam.

Winter Street Parking Ban Ends

6:00AM at Throughout West Dundee
On November 1st, 2018, the winter street parking ban went into effect, which prohibits parking on Village streets between the hours of 2 am and 6 am.

The purpose of the parking ban is to ensure that in case of an early morning snowfall, the roads are unobstructed and can be completely cleared by the Public Works Dept.

If you have short-term guests or your vehicle is inoperable and cannot be moved, permission may be requested for overnight street parking. To request such, enter your vehicle information online or contact QuadCom at 847-428-8784 and provide the vehicle’s location, make, model and license plate number.

In the event of two or more inches of snowfall, the vehicle may have to be moved at your expense and/or ticketed if it inhibits snow removal operations.

The overnight street parking ban ends on April 1, 2019.
